In the most countries Religion is separated from the state. This means that formally religion does not imply into the politics and does not support any political parties. But practically it is not se.
First the religion is a part of our society. It tries to have considerable impact upon politics in many regions of the world to get influence and to attract more people. It was considered that with the development of urbanization, education, science and social mobility the role of religion will fell. The reality did not prove it.
Nowadays the religion is used as a vehicle of opposition or as an ideology of community self-interest.
Islamic countries use the religion as a tool of government, providing the religion laws into the daily life.
In Christian countries the religion is used to influence over the people during election and providing policies.
For example in Russia, Great Patriarch Chiril is involved very actively in the building of so called “Russian world”. Russian official church is often used in providing Russian national interests all over the world, especially in CIS countries.
From the other side the Rome Catholic Church also directly influences the political processes in the world.
By supporting politics, the Religion tries to obtain benefits from the State like building of churches, introducing of religion in school program and other benefits.
The official Religion usually tries to undermine all other religion movements in the country, considering only its role is important.
Political opposition often uses church to change the government. Many recent revolutions in Europe were held with the support of Church.

Yeah, it should be so, but it isn't. Look in Italy, politics should be separated, but no. As soon as they adopted that law which allows gays to marry, the church also changed its mind and decided to allow them too, although it's against the laws of God. Do you get it? Until the church adopted that "God's law" maybe religious people were against those people, different from us, but now, as it said it's ok, religious people now put up with the general legislation of the country, so there is no disagreement.
In the middle ages church ruled the country and it is with the church the kings and the rulers manipulated people and got support from them. In Great Britain in those centuries if the queen changed her religion which didn't match with the religion of the country (e.g. changed to Protestantism) they prosecuted her or she wouldn't have the regular people's support.
ALWAYS religion went side by side with politics, and so it goes now.
What is written in the legislation is a formality, and it doesn't mean they should abide it, I mean, regular people should, but not the politicians, they think of themselves as being distinct and having more privileges.
